Paul A. Matthews joined Bourland Heflin Alvarez Minor & Matthews, PLC (BHAMM) as a named partner in 2006. Prior to joining the firm, he was a partner for 24 years at Armstrong Allen, PLLC, an 80-lawyer, regional firm. Paul also has 30 years of experience as counsel for a 3,000-member trade association.

Selected as one of the “Top 100 Lawyers in Tennessee” and named to Best Lawyers in America and Mid-South Super Lawyers, Paul focuses his practice on business and commercial litigation, personal litigation, business law, creditor rights and bankruptcy, trade associations, and non-profit corporations. Paul has extensive experience litigating complex cases including cases involving various business disputes, trust litigation, protection of trade secrets, shareholder and control disputes, fraud and business tort claims and numerous other subjects. His experience also covers large and small transactions for buyers, sellers, lenders, borrowers, issuers as well as various types of commercial transactions. He has served as Special Master for the Shelby County Chancery Court.

As one of only a few attorneys in the Mid-South to be board-certified in both business and consumer bankruptcy law, Paul’s experience includes handling hundreds of bankruptcy matters. He has published a number of writings and two books on legal and historical subjects, as well as served as contributing editor of five editions of Martindale-Hubbell Tennessee Law Digest.
